Abstract
The present experiment was designed to observe the distribution of the acid mucopolysaccharides in the rat salivary glands under the different secretory activities.
The terminal portions of the submandibular and sublingual glands in the fasting rats showed the strong positive reaction for the acid mucopolysaccharides. But their reactions were slightly reduced by the secretory stimuli such as food supply and pilocarpine adniinistration. Most of the acid mucopolysaccharides containing carboxylic group in those salivary glands was sialomucin.
